Generally in India, and especially in Kerala, we mistake communication skills as English speaking skills, which is total non sense. Communication can be in any language, and the ability to communicate is communication skills. The ability to speak well must be considered as Énglish speaking skills, and the ability to speak in Malayalam must be considered asMalayalam speaking skills. During my school / college days, like any other Malayalee in Kerala, I also had problems with spoken English. I could read and write English well, but could not speak this language well. One day, I met Mr.XYZ from our village inside the ferry boat. He was carrying some old Hindu news papers, becuase he did not have the money to buy new ones ( as he was also a student, who was doing his Masters in social work). He advised me to start reading English news papers, even if I did not understand the meaning. I followed....and the result....I am able to read, write and speak reasonably well, this foreign language ÉNGLISH'. There is no harm in learning a foreign language, which is widely used across our planet.
